Carbon Offset: Reduction To Elimination of Carbon Footprints Through Facilitation Of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

URBAN RENEWABLES offers opportunities for clients to participate in the green movement by offsetting their carbon footprints with the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). By engaging our solution(s), you are not just committing to a cleaner power bill for yourselves, you are joining a community of people that are working to clean up our energy grid for good. We do this by connecting clients to clean energy sources, such as community solar rooftops, and by matching their usage with clean power through RECs.

Understanding of RECs:
Once clean energy enters the grid, it is impossible to track exactly where those clean electrons end up. All electrons are identical, regardless if they are generated by coal, nuclear, or solar. Imagine mixing purified water into a dirty pond and trying to track the clean water molecules. That is where RECs help to clear that up.

Each certificate is only created with every 1 megawatt-hour of renewable energy generated for the power grid, which can be sold in the market to a company or individual who then claims its usage. Once the certificate is sold, that energy is officially used. The REC will be retired, and cannot be traded, donated, or resold. It is the main method for tracking clean energy production and — perhaps most importantly — every REC purchase, big or small, demonstrates demand for more clean energy projects. Hence, contributes to the growth of renewable energy projects. For many of us who do not have physical renewable power plant nearby, RECs are the best access point to charge up your daily operations with  clean energy’s proof of documentation.

All of which, when done properly, is a testament to the power and opportunity that comes from a community-driven business en route to the fossil-fuel-free future. URBAN RENEWABLES produces RECs solely from our own projects. All RECs are uniquely numbered and generally include information such as, where they were generated, what type of renewable resource they came from, and a date stamp of generation. The exchange of RECs is tracked and recorded. All documentation will be processed with utmost integrity and transparency as we place ethicality in our practices as top priority — which we believe firmly — is mandatory for positive change.
